  • Josh Brown Q&A, 4/27/2003, Seahawks.com
Q: Were you expecting to go about here, or higher?
"Actually, I had 3 teams that were really looking to draft me hard. I had heard late 3rd, early 4th. It was looking pretty gruesome there at the end. I actually had San Diego on the line, and they said our next is going to be you, if Seattle doesn’t get you, and Seattle beeped in. It’s been a crazy weekend. A long wait."
Q: Is there any difference coming to a team that currently doesn’t have a kicker on the roster?
"I think that’s the best way it should be. It feels good. Coach Rodriguez obviously thinks I can come in and contribute. I’m sure they’ll bring in competition as well. Right now it feels awful good to think that I could be starting in the NFL next season."
Q: What do you think the biggest difference will be between college and the NFL?
"So far, the difference is these brand new balls. That one inch tee on kickoffs makes a big difference on your hang time. When I worked out with Coach Rodriguez, I was putting them all about six deep. I wasn’t really having a tough day. The only difference in the way I kick is dropping that inch on the kickoff. I’m having to drive the ball a lot more, but I’m still getting 4.1, 4.2 hang time out of it."
Q: What kind of range do you have? What’s your longest kick?
"In college, 52 yards was the longest I attempted, and I hit that real easy. In high school I hit a 61 yarder my junior year. My range is pretty consistently 60 and in."
Q: You’re pretty good at kickoffs, too.
"Kickoffs I would say is my specialty. I love to do it."
