Details
  • Huskers.com Week 6
  • Seahawks vs Rams: Seattle Seahawks kicker Josh Brown had an important first in the game against St. Louis and it wasn't the 54-yarder he made to win it as time ran out. Rather, it was on a missed attempt from 34 yards. The ball hit the left goalpost first, then the right and then fell to the crossbar. Said Brown: "I've hit both of them before, but never all three. You should get some points for that." (Yahoo! Sports)
  • Josh Brown will be named NFC special teams player of the week today (10/18) for his record-setting efforts in Sunday's wild 30-28 victory over the Rams in St. Louis. It was Brown's 54-yard field goal as time expired that completed the Seahawks' 16-point rally in the fourth quarter. But he also contributed a pair of 49-yarders in becoming the first kicker in NFL history to have three field goals of that length in the fourth quarter. (SeattlePI.com)
  • Bears vs Cardinals: Down 20-3 to the 1-4 Cardinals, the 5-0 Bears got their first touchdown of the game when Mike Brown scooped up a Matt Leinart fumble and scored from the 3-yard line with two seconds left in the third quarter. (AP)
  • Falcons vs Giants: On the Giants’ first offensive play, Eli Manning’s pass for Visanthe Shiancoe was tipped by Rod Coleman and intercepted by linebacker Demorrio Williams. (SportsFeatures.com)
  • Seahawks vs Rams: Josh Brown's game-winning 54-yard field goal didn't surprise. There are a lot of kickers in the NFL who would not have been able to make that kick but Josh Brown is not one of them. As long as rookie punter and place-kick holder Ryan Plackemeier is able to get the ball down and laces away (ahem), I like our chances to win. In field goals 50 yards or more, Brown is scary good. Keep this up and fans will stop confusing the kicker with Matt Hasselbeck when seeking an autograph. (Seahawks.NET)

  • Josh Brown's late field goal wins it for 'Hawks
  • Brown's 54-yarder lifts Seattle
  • Saints vs Eagles: Correll Buckhalter carried the ball 5 yards on first-and-10 in the second quarter yesterday, and never carried it again, (PhillyNews.com)
  • Panthers vs Ravens: Punter Sam Koch began the final quarter with a perfect kick that long-snapper Matt Katula downed at the Carolina six-yard line, but that wouldn't prove to be a problem for Delhomme and the Panthers. The Panthers ended the drive with a field goal. (BaltimoreRavens.com)
  • Ravens QB Steve McNair left the game with a concussion and sprained neck after being sacked by Mike Rucker and Chris Draft. (Baltimore Sun)
  • After kicker Matt Stover, punter Sam Koch has become the offense's most valuable player. He bails out the Ravens every week; Sunday, he averaged 43.2 yards on five punts. (Baltimore Sun)
  • Back in those dreary days when the Carolina Panthers were 0-2 and the preseason magazines with the Super Bowl predictions were getting tossed, safety Mike Minter laughed.
"You all will forget all this when we go out and win like seven in a row," Minter told reporters in mid-September.
It's mid-October and his prediction is starting to look pretty accurate. Maybe they have yet to resemble a Super Bowl team, but the Panthers are in much better shape than they were a month ago.
Minter said, "I knew this football team and I knew what we had and what we didn't have at that time," (namely Steve Smith). "The big thing was, from the coaches down to the players, we knew we couldn't panic. We knew we'd be back where we needed to be."
  • The Ravens second touchdown came with 4:33 left in the game, the ball was tipped by Carolina's Mike Minter on a safety blitz but Panthers WR Mark Clayton came down with it for a 62-yard score. (NBCSports.com)
  • When Carolina's Julius Peppers sacked quarterback Kyle Boller of Baltimore twice in the fourth quarter yesterday, it gave the defensive end eight sacks for the season and 481/2 for his five-year career, making him the all-time franchise leader.
Peppers entered the game one sack behind teammate Mike Rucker for all-time supremacy, but Rucker teamed with linebacker Chris Draft to post one-half of a sack earlier in the game. Rucker hadn't added to his career total at all this season, but that gave him 48 for his 8-year career and allowed him to hold onto the record just a little while longer - until Peppers' fourth-quarter binge. (JournalNow.com)
  • Buffalo vs Lions: Detroit had the ball third-and-10 at the Bills 30-yard line and Chris Kelsay bull-rushed Detroit tight end Dan Campbell right into Jon Kitna for a big sack for an eight-yard loss. That put Lions kicker Jason Hanson just out of range as his 56-yard attempt fell a yard short. (BuffaloBills.com)
  • Lions fullback Cory Schlesinger had a strained hamstring. Further tests are expected today. (DetNews.com)
  • Chris Kelsay bull-rushed Lions tight end Dan Campbell seven yards into the backfield right into quarterback Jon Kitna and picked up the sack. Campbell was moving in reverse so quickly that he looked like he was on roller skates. At the end of the play he was on his back.
  • Kelsay, Crowell, Josh Stamer - There were a couple this season, but it's tough to beat two straight stuffs from the one-yard line. In Buffalo's goal line stand on Detroit's first possession, Chris Kelsay and Angelo Crowell stuffed Kevin Jones on 3rd-and-goal from the one and then Josh Stamer came up with the tackle for loss on 4th-and-goal. The Bills defense went 2-for-3 on red zone stops that day. How the heck did they lose that one?
  • Buccaneers vs Bengals: MLB Shelton Quarles left the game at the beginning of the third quarter with a knee injury. He was replaced by Barrett Ruud, but Quarles returned later in the third quarter and led the team with eight tackles. (Tampa Tribune)
  • Cowboys vs Texans: Texans offensive tackle Zach Wiegert suffered a sprained knee in the loss.
  • Texans kicker Kris Brown extended his scoring streak to 40 games on Sunday. (SportsNetwork)
