Details
  • Huskers.com Week 4
  • New Orleans Saints: Shanle was Saints' best player on Sunday
  • Ravens vs Chargers: Rookie Sam Koch, a 6-1, 230-pound punter out of the University of Nebraska, was busy Sunday afternoon, booting seven punts an average of 48.0 yards, including a long of 56 yards and two placed within the Chargers' 20.
Pulling double-duty, Koch even leveled wideout Eric Parker on a third-quarter return. Parker fielded the punt on the San Diego 19-yard line and ran 31 yards before Koch brought him down.
Although he only handled punting duties at Nebraska - along with some kickoffs - Koch played linebacker, tight end and fullback while prepping at Seward (Neb.) High School.
"He is corn-fed, Nebraska-bred," said Billick with a laugh. "He is not going to shy back from it. I don't know how he feels today, but that was great to see." (BaltimoreRavens.com)
  • IGN.com's 20 Questions for NFL Week 4: #9, What does it take to be a Raven?
You have to hit people…hard. Even the punter gets in on the action. Sam Koch, a 6-1, 230-pound punter, that is. Not the kind of guy with the single bar on the facemask, this kid came to smack anyone with the ball, leveling the Chargers punt returner so hard, kid even got props from Ed Reed and the defense. Only in Baltimore…
  • ...The final sequence began with the Ravens trailing, 13-7, just as they had since halftime. With 5:28 to go, the Chargers were called twice for false starts in their own territory, backing them up to their own 2.
"The crowd was outstanding today," linebacker Ray Lewis (14 tackles) said. "They were so loud they caused four or five false starts."
But the reason the Chargers were back that far was a 48-yard Sam Koch punt on fourth down that had the fans actually booing; they wanted the Ravens to go for it on fourth-and-1 from their own 43.
However, the strategy paid off...Chargers head coach Marty Schottenheimer decided to have Scifres run out of the end zone for an intentional safety, cutting their lead to four points at the 3:12 mark. (PressBoxOnline.com)
  • Falcons vs Cardinals: Kerney, Brooking, Demorrio Williams, Rod Coleman and the gang looked great. They gave the Cardinals fits. (AJC.com)
  • Bengals vs Patriots: The Patriots’ third offensive drive in the second half started at their own 6-yard line. Kyle Larson’s punt landed at the 2-yard line and Washington tipped it backward before the ball rolled into the end zone. Bengals linebacker Andre Frazier downed the ball. (Cincinnati Enquirer)
  • The Patriots went up 14-6 late in the half when the big-play bit them again. Faulk popped a punt for 43 yards to the Bengals 42 when punter Kyle Larson’s booming kick went past his coverage. (Bengals.com)
  • Saints vs Panthers: Josh Bullocks dropped a sure interception in the game. (AL.com)
  • Browns vs Raiders: Handling the corner duties were Daven Holly, Ralph Brown and Antonio Perkins. Other than a 5-yard reception by Randy Moss for a touchdown, the threesome played well.
“They definitely did a great job to step in and hold those guys in the second half,” Bodden said. “I said in training camp that those guys are good as well. They practiced like they’re starters, and they played like it today.” (Tribune Chronicle)
  • The Browns drove to midfield in the middle of the 1st Quarter before the Raiders put an end to the march thanks to CB Fabian Washington's pass deflection on 3rd and 6. (Raiders.com)
  • Browns QB Charlie Frye lobbed his touchdown pass to Jurevicius, who kept both feet inbounds on a pass in the corner of the end zone. Raiders cornerback Fabian Washington was called for interference on the play. (Tribune Chronicle)
