Details
  • Huskers.com Week 3
  • Browns vs Ravens: Apparently the position in the Browns defense to “pick” on is the nickle back. Ralph Brown got a reprieve by starting at cornerback Sunday and the latest victim became Daven Holly. If you didn’t know who #39 for the Browns was at the start of the game, you certainly did by the finish. (MostValuableNetwork.com)
  • Saints vs Falcons: Second year free safety Josh Bullocks not only collected seven tackles and a pass defense, but he blocked a 25-yard field goal that former Saint great Morten Andersen attempted late in the second half. Bullocks and fellow safety Roman Harper enforced the Saints' will in the secondary.
  • Bengals vs Steelers: The wind was bad again on Sunday -- game-changing bad -- but Pittsburgh punt returner Ricardo Colclough learned plenty from Tommy Maddox. After the game, a winnable game he basically lost, Colclough didn't blame the wind.
That's not entirely what happened on the play that triggered Cincinnati's 28-20 victory Sunday. Colclough was standing near the Pittsburgh 25 when Cincinnati punter Kyle Larson juggled the snap and squeezed off a quick-trigger kick that floated downfield. And floated. And floated.
Fifty yards away, Colclough realized the ball was going over his head. Can't let that happen. Field position is everything in a low-scoring game, and the Steelers were eight minutes away from a 17-14 win that would put them back in business in the AFC North.
Frantically he backpedaled, then threw up his hands to field the ball above his forehead, like an outfielder pulling in a fly ball. Colclough made like Jose Canseco as the ball smacked off his head. Larson was credited with a 58-yard punt. Cincinnati recovered on the Steelers' 9 and scored on the next play for a 21-17 lead.
  • Rams vs Cardinals: Despite playing center early in his college career, Richie Incognito hadn't snapped from a shotgun formation until this season with the Rams. He had one adventurous moment in the second quarter, when his shotgun snap sailed over Bulger's head, resulting in a 16-yard loss.
"I held onto it just a little too long," said Incognito, who grew up in Glendale, home of the new Cardinals Stadium. "I heard the crowd yelling. I knew that no (pass rusher) could've got to him that quick. So I was like, 'Oh, (darn).'"
  • Ravens vs Browns: Ravens K Matt Stover on his 52-yard game winning field goal-- "I didn't get it up as high," he noted. But holder Sam Koch "hugged me and was screaming, 'You got it!' I was thinking, 'Man, get through.' So he knew it before I did." (Baltimore Sun)
  • Saints vs Falcons (MNF): 46-year-old Morten Andersen had a 25-yard chip shot field goal swatted away by Josh Bullocks, who came in virtually unblocked. (AP)
  • Titans vs Dolphins: Despite being in the shotgun with Brown to his right, Culpepper was sacked for 8 yards by Titans Pro Bowl DE Kyle Vanden Bosch. DT Randy Starks collapsed the pocket against C Rex Hadnot, but Jacox was responsible for keeping Vanden Bosch at bay. While Hadnot got pushed back, the sack was Jacox's responsibility because he was easily beaten by Vanden Bosch without much of a move. (Palm Beach Post)
