Details
  • Panthers vs Jaguars: Instead of taking a knee and ending the first half, the Jaguars tried to move the ball downfield with about 20 seconds remaining. But Julius Peppers, who also had a sack against the Bills, beat right tackle Maurice Williams and sacked Garrard deep in the backfield. Garrard fumbled for a third time, and defensive lineman Mike Rucker picked up the loose ball and ran 31 yards for a score and a 17-3 lead.
"For us to come out here and do a couple of good things was a positive move in the right direction," Rucker said.
  • Patriots vs Cardinals: John Navarre replaced Matt Leinert and was picked off by Eric Warfield in his first series. Warfield was leveled on the return, fumbled and Carlyle Holiday of the Cardinals recovered for the first down. (Patriots.com)
  • Bills vs Bengals: Another big night for punter Kyle Larson with a booming 44.2-yard net. (Bengals.com)
  • Buccaneers vs Dolphins: With linebacker Shelton Quarles, defensive end Simeon Rice and safety Will Allen all benched, players like linebacker Barrett Ruud, normally a backup, got to start.
Ruud sacked Culpepper for a 5-yard loss in the first quarter. Then Anthony McFarland sacked Culpepper for a 11-yard loss on the next play.
"We were just trying to come out and start fast," McFarland said. "Barrett stepped up big. It showed that if something happened to (Quarles) and Q can't go, then Barrett is ready to go." (Florida Today)
  • Packers vs Falcons: Demorrio Williams started in place of an injured Keith Brooking. (Atlanta Journal Constitution)
  • Ravens vs Eagles: Ravens rookie Sam Koch punted four times, averaging 39.8 yards. Seven-year veteran Leo Araguz punted once for 42 yards. (Baltimore Sun)
  • Bills vs Bengals: Ryan Denney got the start at left defensive end for the Bills, but Chris Kelsay was in on the second defensive series. The battle between the two veteran ends is turning into the hottest on the roster this preseason.
Both played well. Kelsay had a pair of tackles for no gain, including a stop on a 1st-and-goal from the Bills three-yard line. He also had a quarterback pressure.
Denney had some plays of his own. After assisting on a tackle on punt coverage, Denney batted down an Anthony Wright pass on a first down play. That position battle figures to go down to the wire. (BuffaloBills.com)
