Details
  • 09/15/04 - Green Bay Packers: Running back Ahman Green picked up where he left off last season, earning his second "Snickers Hungriest Player" award for his performance against the Carolina Panthers on Monday Night Football. Green rolled up 119 yards and scored three touchdowns - two rushing and one receiving - in the Packers' 24-14 win in Charlotte, N.C.
Snickers will donate $1,000 to the charity of Green's choice. Last season Green earned the award with a 176-yard rushing effort in a win over the Chicago Bears in Week 4.
The award is based on fan voting during each week's Monday Night Football game.
  • 09/13/04 - Packers vs Panthers: Ahman Green ran for two touchdowns and caught a third to lead Green Bay to a 24-to-14 win over Carolina. The Panthers became the sixth straight team to lose in the Super Bowl and their ensuing season opener. Green scored on touchdown runs of three and six yards and finished with 119 yards rushing. (AP)
  • 09/12/04 - Bengals vs Jets: Rookie punter Kyle Larson did his best to help out the Bengals defense, averaging 50.3 on three punts. Twice he pinned the Jets inside their own 20-yard line, at the 14 and the 3. The punts had good hang time and angled well. The Jets have a dangerous return man in Santana Moss, but he finished with just 13 yards on two returns. Larson's net average was 46 yards. (Cincinnati Post)
  • 09/12/04 - Seahawks vs Saints: One thing that stuck out was the presence of defensive end Grant Wistrom, whom the team signed to a six-year, $33 million contract last March. Wistrom made an impact with a tipped pass that resulted in Michael Boulware's third-quarter interception, while other players also seemed to benefit from the veteran being on the field. (HeraldNet.com)
"We heard before the game they were going to wear us out," Wistrom said. "When you hear that, we kind of take it personal, so we went out and played solid defense all day." (AP)
  • 09/12/04 - Rams vs Cardinals: The Rams lost a DeJuan Groce interception at their 2-yard line, due to a defensive holding call on Tyoka Jackson. On the next play, Emmitt Smith went in for an 11-yard touchdown run that put Arizona ahead 10-9. (St. Louis Post-Dispatch)
  • 09/12/04 - Bears vs Lions: Lions' QB Harrington hooked up with fullback Cory Schlesinger on a 30-yard pass to give Detroit a first-and-goal on the Chicago four. On the very next play, Harrington found Hakim in the back of the end zone with 9:54 remaining to give the Lions a 20-14 lead.
  • Mike Brown (7 tackles, PD) had an active day, getting a knockdown of Harrington on a blitz, putting a big hit on Hakim over the middle, and giving good force at the point of attack on the run. (Chicago Sports Review)
