  • *Ahman Green was named FedEx ground NFL player of Week 9.
  • 11/03/03 - Green Bay vs Minnesota: The Packers saved their season Sunday night with a 30-27 victory over Minnesota. Ahman Green rushed 21 times for 137 yards to lead a ground game that gained 261 yards. He also had five catches for 52 yards and a score. (AP)
  • 11/03/03 - Seattle vs Pittsburgh: Seahawks K Josh Brown was 3 of 3 with fields goals of 36, 46, and 34 yards in teh Seahawks win over the Steelers.
  • 11/03/03 - Philadelphia vs Atlanta: By running the ball effectively in the second half, using a combination of Duce Staley and Correll Buckhalter, the Eagles rushed for 128 yards on 28 carries. Buckhalter, who should be getting most of the carries the rest of the season, ran for 92 yards on 23 runs. He brings a pop to the offense that Staley does not, which helped open up the passing game. (CBS Sportsline)
  • The Falcons' pass defense has been so bad defensive coordinator Wade Phillips benched his entire secondary, including Tyrone Williams who was suspended for one game earlier this year for criticizing Phillips. (PhillyBurbs.com)
  • 11/03/03 - Giants vs Jets: The Giants had four takeaways in the game, including two fumbles and interceptions by Ralph Brown and Shaun Williams. It was the first time Jets QB Chad Pennington had thrown two interceptions in a regular season game. The Giants turned three of those turnovers into a touchdown and two field goals.
Ralph's interception was his career-high second of the season, tying him with Will Allen for the team-lead. (NYGiants.com)
  • 11/03/03 - St. Louis vs San Francisco: Rookie cornerback DeJuan Groce replaced Jerametrius Butler for one series in the second quarter, and the 49ers went right at him. San Francisco quarterback Tim Rattay completed passes to Tai Streets, Terrell Owens and Brandon Lloyd - all of whom Groce was attempting to cover. Lloyd made a spectacular diving catch for a TD that would have been difficult for any DB in the league to have defended.
"They wanted to get DeJuan in there some and see how he did, because he did good last game," teammate Butler said. "They just wanted to get him on the field." (StLouisToday.com)
  • 11/03/03 - Carolina vs Houston: Mike Rucker added two sacks to his league-leading total (he now has 10). However, it wasn't enough as the Houston Texans’ upset the Panthers 14-10.
"I’m still upset over this one," safety Mike Minter said. "It’s going to take awhile for this one to get out of our system." (AP)
  • 11/03/03 - In the second quarter Carolina RB Stephen Davis lost the ball after being tackled by Jay Foreman, and cornerback Aaron Glenn picked it up and dashed 48 yards for an apparent score. Carolina coach John Fox threw his red flag, and referee Ron Blum reversed the call after seeing the ground clearly caused the fumble. (AP)
  • 11/03/03 - Just behind Rucker for the NFL lead in Sacks- Michael Strahan sacked Chad Pennington for a seven-yard loss in the first quarter and raised his season total to nine sacks and his career total to 104.5, tying him with Neil Smith for 16th on the NFL's all-time list. (NYGiants.com)
  • 11/03/03 - Detroit vs Oakland: Cory Schlesinger, whose backfield role is primarily to block and catch passes occasionally, had two key plays in the Lions' 66-yard touchdown drive early in the third quarter, putting them ahead, 17-3.
First, he picked up a first down on a third-and-one situation from the Lions' 43.
"It's a little counter play," Schlesinger said. "The running back's going to the left and I'm taking a counter step, looking for a hole anywhere or making a hole... Luckily I was able to squirm outside and get upfield. I kept my pads down. I felt like maybe if I wasn't so low, I almost could have kept running on that play, but my main goal was to get the first down."
Schlesinger got his chance to keep running a few plays later when QB Joey Harrington faked a handoff and then threw to Schlesinger, who had a couple of steps on Raiders cornerback Phillip Buchanon going down the left sideline. The result was a 33-yard TD reception.
"My blazing speed," Schlesinger said, laughing.
Although the pass came down in Schlesinger's hands, he bobbled it. The ball rode up on his shoulder pads momentarily before he pulled it down and continued into the end zone for a 33-yard score.
"Just making it exciting," he said, laughing. "Just making it exciting. I don't remember exactly what happened, but on the replay you can see it. It was right on my right shoulder pad." (Detroit Free Press)
  • Tyrone Williams did not play (benched).
  • Keyuo Craver did not play (NFL suspension).
